Imperfective verbs describe actions that are ongoing, repeated, or not completed. In the present tense, Upper Sorbian verbs follow various conjugation patterns based on their stem and infinitive ending. Upper Sorbian has singular, dual, and plural forms in the present tense.
-ać conjugation: Includes verbs like čitać (to read), dźěłać (to do).
- Example: čitać -> Sg: Ja čitam (I read/am reading), Ty čitaš, Wón/Wona/Wono čita. Du: Mydwě čitamaj, Wudwě čitataj, Wobaj/Wobě/Wonej čitataj. Pl: My čitamy, Wy čitaće, Woni/Wone čitaja.
-ić conjugation: Includes verbs like rěčeć (to speak), widźeć (to see).
- Example: rěčeć -> Sg: Ja rěču (I speak/am speaking), Ty rěčiš, Wón/Wona/Wono rěči. Du: Mydwě rěčiwaj, Wudwě rěčitaj, Wobaj/Wobě/Wonej rěčitaj. Pl: My rěčimy, Wy rěčiće, Woni/Wone rěča.
