The Future Tense

To express actions that will happen in the future using imperfective verbs, you can combine the future tense of бы́ти ('to be') with the infinitive of the main verb, or use the simple future for perfective verbs.

  • Compound Future ('бы́ти' + Infinitive - for imperfective verbs): Future forms of бы́ти (бꙋ́дꙋ, бꙋ́деши, бꙋ́детъ, бꙋ́девѣ, бꙋ́дета, бꙋ́детѣ, бꙋ́демъ, бꙋ́дете, бꙋ́дꙋтъ) + Infinitive.
  • Simple Future (for perfective verbs): Formed using the present tense conjugation of the perfective verb.
  • Examples (Compound Future - imperfective): А́зъ бꙋ́дꙋ чита́ти кни́гꙋ (I will read a book). Тꙑ̀ бꙋ́деши глаго́лати съ ни́мъ (You will speak with him). Та̀ бꙋ́детъ рабо́тати оу҆́трѣ (She will work tomorrow). Мꙑ̀ бꙋ́демъ писа́ти (We will write). О́ни бꙋ́дꙋтъ зрѣ́ти фі́льмъ (They will watch a film).
  • Examples (Simple Future - perfective): А́зъ прочита́ю кни́гꙋ (I will read a book). Тꙑ̀ рече́ши є҆мꙋ̀ (You will tell him). Та̀ сътвори́тъ сіѐ (She will do this).
