The Proper Locative Case: Location and Topic
The Locative case (Miejscownik) specifies location ('in', 'on', 'at') or the topic of discussion ('about'). It is unique because it is always used with a preposition, such as we (in), na (on), or ô (about).
Nouns:
- Singular Masculine/Neuter: For all -u. (e.g., we domu - in a house, ô chopie - about a man, we polu - in a field)
- Singular Feminine: Common endings include -e or -i. (e.g., na rzyce - on a river, ô siostrze - about a sister, na ziymii - on land)
- Plural (all genders): Often ends in -ach. (e.g., we domach - in houses, ô chopach - about men, we polach - in fields)
Adjectives:
- Singular Masculine/Neuter: hard -ym, soft -iym. (e.g., we dobrym domu - in a good house, ô inšym chopie - about a different man)
- Singular Feminine: hard -ej, soft -ij. (e.g., na dobrej rzyce - on a good river, ô inšij ziymii - about different land)
- Plural (all genders): hard/soft -ych/-ich. (e.g., we dobrych domach - in good houses, ô inšich chopach - about different men)
Examples: Moja ksiůnżka je na stole (My book is on the table). Gŏdomy ô naszym domu (We are talking about our house). Łoni miyszkajům we wielgim mieście (They live in a big city). Bajtle sie szpilajům na placach (Children are playing in the yards).
